It had always been on the Howick Village Association's wish list to have a local radio station in Howick.
Well, the absolutely fabulous news is that it is now a reality!
Howick Village Radio began its very first transmission on Waitangi day 2008. The first broadcasts comprised 5 CDs of easy listening music on continuous rotation with no DJs at all. Since then the station has grown. We now have a volunteer staff of over 30 who provide an almost complete schedule of hosted shows covering a very wide variety of musical genres.
Howick Village Radio proudly operates on the frequency of 88.1fm. This is a low power fm frequency that broadcasts in approximately a 6km radius of the studio in central Howick.

* Howick Village Radio is located in the Howick Village Association building in Central Terrace carpark. Next to Pakuranga and Howick Realty. Look for the big sign.
Tips For Tuning in:
- Try moving your aerial around, or if you are trying to use a portable radio, move it to a different location.
- If using a non-digital tuner, slowly move the channel selection down to the bottom of the fm band and move the external aerial around (if it has one) at the same time. A little patience goes a long way doing this.
- Often import Japanese car radios are useless. Try tuning with a different radio if your Japanese car radio doesn’t work.
- Sometimes things can interfere with our frequency. We have noticed things like laptops, washing machines and more can cause significant interference. Try listening while those are not in use.
- Best results are found by connecting your home radio to an outside antenna, such as a television aerial. Ask at an appliance store such as Dick Smith for assistance with this.
